Buyer’s guide: the C5 and C6 Corvette story

The C5 and C6 Chevrolet Corvette and Corvette convertible were available with either a 5.7L, 6.0L, 6.2L non-supercharged, 6.2L supercharged or 7.0L V8 engine.

The engine drives the rear wheels via an enclosed driveshaft and either a rear-mounted six-speed manual or automatic transmission, and rear independent driveaxles.

Suspension is independent at all four wheels. The front end consists of upper and lower control arms, shock absorbers, a stabilizer bar and a composite transverse spring. The rear suspension uses upper and lower control arms, a toe-link, shock absorbers, a composite transverse spring and a stabilizer bar. The rack-and-pinion steering unit is mounted on the front subframe.

The brakes are disc at the front and rear, with power assist standard. An Anti-lock Brake System (ABS) is standard on all models.
